Rome in December with kids

Turismo Roma puts the few truly cold days in December and January, and it does not print a monthly °C table. The Rome with kids page already covers Explora booking, under-18 Colosseum prices and ATAC child rules. This note is the winter close, the 25 December shutters, and the Christmas market dates that were not posted.

Turismo Roma, Bioparco, the Colosseum park and the Villa Borghese civic page were opened on 15 October 2026. Live Christmas dossiers still said 2025. Galleria Borghese hours returned an error. Explora's festive workshop page had no year and looked like 2025 to 2026. Those three are omitted.

Cold days, not a thermometer

The climate page is qualitative. Heat in July and August. Rain in November and February. A few truly cold days, mainly December and January, rarely below zero. Best seasons: spring and autumn, with longer days once daylight saving starts.

December is a coat morning and a short ruin, not a snow plan. The only clothing line on that page is sun protection from June to September. It is not reused here.

17:00 at the zoo, 16:30 at the ruins

Bioparco from 26 October to 31 December 2026 is 09:30 to 17:00. Last entry one hour before close. Closed Christmas Day. The same 09:30 to 17:00 band returns 1 January to 29 March. From November to March the big cats go in 60 minutes before closing. The Reptile House still closes 60 minutes before the park all year.

Colosseo from 25 October 2026 to 28 February 2027: last entry 15:30, close 16:30. Closed 25 December 2026 and 1 January 2027. The Colosseum still opens 08:30, Forum and Palatine 09:00. Timed tickets stay nominative. Under-18 prices stay on the year-round page.

24 December and 31 December special hours were not printed on either operator page.

A park that does not close, a market that was not dated

Villa Borghese is listed as always open. Turismo Roma's family note still gives about 80 hectares, Casina di Raffaello for ages 3 to 14, lake boats and Cinema dei Piccoli. That is the 25 December outdoor plan when the ticket desks are shut.

Piazza Navona and the city Christmas-market dossiers still carried 2025 or 2025 to 2026 titles. Walk past chalets if you see them. Do not build a day on a date this page could not confirm.

Explora's standing turns (closed Monday, four daily sessions) stay on the year-round page. The festive-lab text without a year is not used as 2026.

A December day that holds: Bioparco before 16:00 on a day that is not the 25th, Colosseum before 15:30 on a day it is open, Villa Borghese when both are shut. No market week. No invented °C.

What 25 December is

25 December is Villa Borghese, not the Colosseum and not Bioparco. 1 January is the same for the ruins, while Bioparco returns to the 09:30 to 17:00 winter slot.

If you have one ruin ticket, book a winter morning that is not the 25th or the 1st, and be inside by 15:30. If you have one child who wants animals, go to Bioparco before the cats head in. If you have no tickets, the 80-hectare park is the standing offer.

ATAC child rules do not change in December. Explora still requires a child in the right age band. Those facts stay on Rome with kids.

Explora's standing turns last 1 hour 45 minutes: 10:00, 12:00, 15:00 and 17:00, Tuesday to Sunday, Monday closed. Parking copy says 24 and 31 December until 17:00, and closed 25 December and 1 January. Children only with adults, adults only with children, ages 0 to 11. Book a turn. A walk-up on 23 December is a poor plan.

The Colosseum children's route, Vestale Tarpea, still sits in the official Y&Co app in Italian and English. It does not add minutes to the 16:30 close. Be inside by 15:30. Identification still matters. Tickets stay nominative. Sales still open 30 days ahead.

Bioparco's reduced ticket remains for children taller than 1 metre up to 10 years. Under 1 metre stays free. Measure before you reach the booth. The winter 17:00 close makes that queue more expensive in time than in euros.
