April in Rome is the season Turismo Roma actually recommends, and a zoo clock that may still be last year's table. The Rome with kids page already covers Explora sessions, ATAC to age 10 and free under-18 Colosseum tickets. This page is spring weather, Bioparco's last published April pattern, and the standing free days at the park.

Turismo Roma, Bioparco and colosseo.it were opened on 14 October 2026. Hanami and Village for the Earth dates from April 2026 are past and are not reprinted. Easter 2027 is omitted. No monthly °C table sat on the climate page.

Mild air, not a number

Turismo Roma's climate note is qualitative. Best seasons: spring and autumn, mild, longer days once daylight saving starts. Rain sits in November and February. Truly cold days are mostly December and January and rarely drop below zero. July and August are the hot months. That is why April is the walking month. It is also why this page will not invent a 15 to 20°C range.

Pack a layer. Plan an outdoor park. Do not plan a noon Forum marathon with a toddler.

Bioparco: use the 2026 spring pattern, then check

The year-round Rome page omitted Bioparco hours because two official texts disagreed. For April the two 2026 tables agreed on the long day. The English tickets page listed 30 March to 25 October at 09:30 to 18:00, and 09:30 to 19:00 on weekends and holidays from 30 March to 5 October. Last entry one hour before close. Closed 25 December. The Italian copy used 29 March to 24 October for the same bands. All of April 2026 sat inside the longer day.

April 2027 was not published. Read the live page the week you go. Treat 09:30 to 18:00 as the last published April pattern, not as a promise.

The winter rule that big cats go in 60 minutes early applies November to March only. In April, on the English page, that does not apply. The Reptile House still closes 60 minutes before the park all year.

Ticket prices (19 euros adult, 14 euros reduced over 1 metre up to age 10) stay on the year-round page.

Colosseum: 25 April is a standing free day

colosseo.it keeps free entry on the first Sunday of the month, and on 25 April, 2 June and 4 November. You still book. Sales open 30 days ahead. Tickets are nominative. Bring ID. Under-18s are already free on ordinary days. 25 April is Liberation Day on that standing list, not a special children's festival.

The park opens 08:30, Forum and Palatine 09:00. The official Y&Co app includes a children's route, Vestale Tarpea, in Italian and English. The winter clock (last entry 15:30, close 16:30) runs 25 October 2026 to 28 February 2027. No April 2027 row was posted. Do not print a spring closing time.

One timed slot is enough. Explora in the morning, or the ruins, not both.

Villa Borghese is the April outdoor room

Turismo Roma calls Villa Borghese the outdoor family park: about 80 hectares, Casina di Raffaello for ages 3 to 14, lake boats, Cinema dei Piccoli, San Carlino puppets. Bioparco sits inside it. That is the day if you skip stone. No April 2027 hours sat on that page. Use it as a park, not as a timetable.

A first April stay that holds: Explora if you booked a session (year-round page), Bioparco on the live spring clock, Villa Borghese grass, one Colosseum slot if you want the ruin, especially if 25 April or a first Sunday makes the ticket free. ATAC to age 10 does not change. For the year-round booking spine, stay on Rome with kids.

First Sunday and 25 April are not walk-up mornings

Free Colosseum days still need a timed ticket released 30 days ahead. They also draw more people. If you have a child who hates crowds, pay on a quieter Tuesday and use the under-18 free ticket you already qualify for. 25 April is a bonus if you booked it, not a surprise you decide at breakfast.

ATAC still carries children to age 10 free with a paying adult inside Roma Capitale. April does not change that. The hop from Explora on Via Flaminia to Villa Borghese is still a bus or a walk, not a reason to buy a day pass you will not use.

Explora stays Tuesday to Sunday, four sessions, Monday shut. Book the 10:00 shift and put Bioparco after lunch, or put Bioparco first and skip the ruins. Two ruins and a zoo is the day the city wins. Luneur (to age 12) and Technotown (12 and over) remain the age-split extras on the Turismo Roma family itinerary. They are a second-day choice, not an April special.

Questions

Is Bioparco on summer hours in April?

The last published 2026 English table put 30 March to 25 October at 09:30 to 18:00, with weekends until 19:00 until 5 October. April sat inside that band. 2027 hours were not posted. Last entry is one hour before close.

Is the Colosseum free on 25 April?

25 April is on the park's standing free-entry list, with the first Sunday of the month, 2 June and 4 November. You still book a timed ticket. Under-18s are free on ordinary days too, as the year-round page says.

Where do you take children if you skip the ruins?

Villa Borghese is about 80 hectares, with Casina di Raffaello for ages 3 to 14, lake boats and a children's cinema. Bioparco sits inside the same park. Explora booking stays on the year-round Rome page.
