Destination NSW calls December to February summer. Taronga stays on the 09:30 to 17:00 summer clock. The Sydney with kids page already covers Opal child caps, the free Burra room and Opera House tour stairs. This note is the southern summer, the sun rules, and the one 2027 lunar date sydney.com had actually posted.

sydney.com and Taronga were opened on 15 October 2026. No February monthly thermometer loaded. City-wide Lunar New Year and Mardi Gras pages still said 2026.

Summer, not a February number

Health and safety is blunt. Seasons are opposite the Northern Hemisphere. Summer is December to February. The coolest months are June to August. Avoid long spells outdoors between 11:00 and 15:00. Wear a sunhat, sunglasses and water-resistant SPF50+.

Useful information prints January as the warmest month, 19 to 26°C on average, up to 30°C, and July as 8 to 17°C. February is not on that pair. This page will not copy January's band onto February.

That is the whole climate argument you can source: it is summer, the sun is the planning fact, and the printed warmest month is the one next door.

Retail hours on the same useful-information page stay 09:00 or 10:00 to 17:30, Thursdays until 21:00. They do not shift for February.

Taronga until 17:00

Taronga is 365 days. September to April: 09:30 to 17:00. May to August: 09:30 to 16:30. February is the longer day. The 12-minute ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 4 stays the official hop. Under-4s stay free. Child 4 to 15 stays on the child ticket.

Australian Museum stays free, 10:00 to 17:00, Burra until 16:30, closed Christmas Day only. Under-12s still need an adult in Burra. Opera House tours still have no lift and still skip 25 and 31 December 2026, which is not a February fact.

Opal child caps (9.65 dollars Monday to Thursday, 4.80 on Friday to Sunday) do not change in February.

One 2027 lunar listing

Cabramatta Lunar New Year Festival 2027 is Saturday 20 February 2027, Freedom Plaza, Year of the Goat. That is western Sydney, not Circular Quay.

The city Lunar New Year page still described 2026, 17 February, Year of the Horse. Mardi Gras listings still ran 13 February to 1 March 2026. Standing copy says the parade is the last Saturday in February and Fair Day is family-friendly in Victoria Park, without a 2027 date. This page will not invent one.

A February day that holds: Taronga before 17:00, Burra after 11:00 when the sun is high, Cabramatta on the 20th if that suburb is the plan. Shade between 11:00 and 15:00 because sydney.com said so.

What summer is for

February is a hat and a 17:00 zoo, not a winter coat and not a city-wide lunar timetable. If you have one paid outdoor ticket, buy Taronga and take the ferry. If you have one free indoor room, use Burra after the midday sun. If you have 20 February, treat Cabramatta as a separate outing, not as an add-on after the zoo.

Do not write January's 19 to 26°C onto a February packing list. Do not write 2026 Mardi Gras dates onto a 2027 calendar. For Opal caps and the stairs at the Opera House, stay on Sydney with kids.

Children aged 3 and under still travel free. Ages 4 to 15 still pay Child and Youth Opal. No proof is required. The airport station access fee still sits outside the 9.65 and 4.80 dollar caps. Off-peak and Friday to Sunday metro, train, bus and light-rail trips still take 30 percent off. February heat does not change the tap.

The Opera House Tour is still about 1 hour, up to 2.5 km and about 300 stairs, no lift. Child 5 to 15 was 30 dollars pre-booked. Under 5 free. Family of 2 adults and 2 children 15 and under was 130 dollars pre-booked. That walk is a bad midday idea between 11:00 and 15:00 on a summer page that told you to stay in. Book an early slot or skip it.

Darling Quarter playground stays on the year-round page as the free shade near the museum. Use it after Burra, not after a 17:00 zoo close you have already missed.

Bus 100 from QVB to Taronga still takes about 30 minutes on the zoo page. Use it if the ferry queue at Wharf 4 is the midday sun you were told to avoid.
