Florence with kids: things to do
Age fit from Autolinee Toscane, the Uffizi, Museo Galileo, MUS.E and Feel Florence, checked 13 October 2026.
| Place | Ages | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Autolinee Toscane, Urbano Capoluogo | free to the 11th birthday | Only with an adult. If more than one child is under 11, only one rides free. Ticket lasts 90 minutes on tram and urban buses. |
| Uffizi | under 18 free | Any nationality, with ID. Under 12s with adults. |
| Museo Galileo | under 6 free, 6 to 18 at 7 euros | Full 14 euros. Family 32 euros (2 plus 2, or 1 plus 3). Tuesday closes at 13:00. |
| Palazzo Vecchio MUS.E family activities | from age 4 | By reservation. Family Kit from age 6. Under 18s 0 euros for the palace. Tower 20 / 13 euros. |
| Bottega dei Ragazzi at the Innocenti | from age 3 | Feel Florence listing. Pick up the free Firenze for Families kit (80 or more spots) at an infopoint. |
On Autolinee Toscane, a child rides free only until their 11th birthday, and only when an adult is with them. If you board with more than one child under 11, only one of those children is free. That limit sits on the Italian page, not in a rumour. Count tickets before you tap. Uffizi, Museo Galileo, MUS.E, Feel Florence and the Boboli page supplied the museum figures. Those sites were opened on 13 October 2026.
The 90-minute urban ticket, and the second child
Autolinee Toscane states the free ride to the 11th birthday with an adult. The Italian wording is the one that caps the free children at one. Everyone else in the party needs a ticket. Urbano Capoluogo covers tram and urban buses for 90 minutes.
That 90 minutes is enough for a hop from the station to the river or a later ride out to a garden gate. It is not an all-day pass. If you will ride, walk, ride again after lunch, budget another ticket or walk the centre.
Do not assume the second child under 11 is free because the first one is. Buy the extra fare.
Free under 18s at the Uffizi, with an adult rule under 12
The Uffizi free-and-reduced page is clear. Under 18s of any nationality enter free with ID. Children under 12 visit with adults. Take the ID. Do not argue at the door with a screenshot.
Free is not the same as short. The rooms are long. Walk in with one corridor in mind and walk out. Under 12s still need those adults beside them, so splitting up to cover more rooms only works if each group still satisfies the rule.
Museo Galileo as the hour built for hands
Museo Galileo lists Monday and Wednesday to Sunday 09:30 to 18:00, and Tuesday 09:30 to 13:00. Closed 1 January and 25 December. Full price 14 euros, ages 6 to 18 pay 7 euros, under 6s free. The family ticket is 32 euros for 2 adults plus 2 children, or 1 adult plus 3 children.
Tuesday closing at 13:00 is the trap. If Tuesday is your science morning, arrive at 09:30. The 32 euro family ticket is the sum to use when the household matches 2 plus 2 or 1 plus 3. Under 6s are already free on a standard ticket, so a lone preschooler with 2 adults may be cheaper as separate tickets than as a family bundle. Do that arithmetic on the posted bands, not on a guess.
Instruments and globes hold a 6-to-18-year-old longer than a palace fresco. That is why this museum sits on a family page at all.
Palazzo Vecchio: kits from 6, activities from 4, tower as a separate ticket
MUS.E's Palazzo Vecchio page listed 18 euros full, 12 euros reduced for ages 18 to 25, and 0 euros under 18. The tower is 20 euros full and 13 euros reduced. Typical hours are 09:00 to 19:00, Thursday 09:00 to 14:00. The ticket office closes 1 hour early.
MUS.E family activities start from age 4 and need a reservation. The Family Kit starts from age 6. Book those, then treat the painted halls as the wrap-around, not the other way around. Under 18s already pay 0 euros for the palace, so the kit and the activities are the extra you plan, not a ticket you forgot.
Thursday closing at 14:00, plus a ticket office that shuts 1 hour early, makes Thursday a morning-only palace. Do not aim for a late tower climb that day.
The free kit at the infopoint, and Bottega from 3
Feel Florence hands out a free Firenze for Families kit covering 80 or more spots at the infopoints. Bottega dei Ragazzi at the Istituto degli Innocenti starts from age 3. Use the kit for the walks between ticketed rooms. Use Bottega when you have someone who has turned 3 and needs a workshop, not another corridor.
Feel Florence also repeats the MUS.E note: family activities from age 4 by reservation, Family Kit from age 6. Two official pages saying the same age bands is the confirmation.
Boboli: last entry, closed Mondays, no porcelain
Boboli Garden takes last entry 1 hour before closing. It closes on the first and last Monday of the month and on 25 December. There is a baby pit-stop near the Amphitheatre. The Porcelain Museum is closed.
The pit-stop is the reason a baby day can live in the garden at all. The closed porcelain rooms are the reason you should not promise that museum. First and last Mondays are garden-closed Mondays: pair those days with Galileo (open Monday, short on Tuesday) or with Palazzo Vecchio, not with Boboli.
A first visit that does not punish anyone: one free under-18 interior (Uffizi or Palazzo Vecchio, not both at full length), Galileo if you want objects to touch with the eyes, Boboli only on a day it is open and with last entry in mind, and the Firenze for Families kit in the bag. Buy the second under-11 a bus ticket. Florence is already expensive enough without discovering that rule at the validator.
Questions
Do all young children ride free on Florence buses?
A child travels free until their 11th birthday when with an adult. If you have more than one child under 11, only one of them is free: that limit is on the Italian Autolinee Toscane page. The Urbano Capoluogo ticket lasts 90 minutes on tram and urban buses.
Is the Uffizi free for children?
Under 18s of any nationality enter free with ID. Children under 12 visit with adults. That is a ticket saving, not a reason to walk every corridor. Pair a short room with something built for smaller hands.
What does the Museo Galileo family ticket cover?
32 euros for 2 adults plus 2 children, or 1 adult plus 3 children. Under 6s are free on a standard ticket. Ages 6 to 18 pay 7 euros, full price 14 euros. Closed 1 January and 25 December. Tuesday it closes at 13:00.
Is Boboli a good garden with a baby?
There is a baby pit-stop near the Amphitheatre. Last entry is 1 hour before closing. The garden is closed on the first and last Monday of the month and on 25 December. The Porcelain Museum is closed, so do not plan that room.
