Family fares and tickets from BVG, visitBerlin and venue sites, checked 13 October 2026.

TicketPriceNotes
BVG single AB4.00 / 2.50 eurosAdult / reduced ages 6 to 14. Valid 120 minutes, one direction. Under 6 free.
BVG 24-hour AB11.20 / 7.40 eurosOne adult plus up to three children aged 6 to 14. ABC 12.90 / 8.00. BER is zone C.
Berlin Welcome Card ClassicFrom 28.50 eurosUnder 6 unlimited, plus up to three children aged 6 to 14 on one adult card. Airport needs ABC.
Zoo Berlin, under 4Free (zoo and aquarium)Child tickets ages 4 to 15. Under 12 with an adult. Online zoo-only from 7.50 euros.
Naturkunde family ticket18.00 eurosTwo adults plus up to three children under 14. Age 6+ otherwise 5.00. Closed Monday.

Buy the BVG 24-hour ticket when two or more children aged 6 to 14 will ride with one adult. That single adult product covers the adult and as many as three children in that band, so an AB day is 11.20 euros instead of a pile of singles. Children under 6 ride free and do not use one of those three child places.

Berlin with children is a zoning problem first. Once the ticket matches AB or ABC, the days that hold together are Zoo Berlin, a free hall such as Futurium or the Humboldt Forum, and Museum für Naturkunde on a day it is open. Operator pages for BVG, visitBerlin, the zoo and Naturkunde were opened on 13 October 2026.

AB, ABC and the airport zone

BVG singles in zone AB cost 4.00 euros for an adult and 2.50 euros at the reduced rate for ages 6 to 14. Validity is 120 minutes in one direction. Under-6s need no ticket. After two or three hops, stop buying singles.

The 24-hour ticket is the product that covers the children: one adult plus as many as three aged 6 to 14. AB is 11.20 euros (reduced 7.40). ABC is 12.90 euros (reduced 8.00). Berlin Brandenburg Airport sits in zone C, so an AB card leaves you short on the airport railway. Buy ABC for that journey.

The Berlin Welcome Card puts unlimited travel for children under 6, plus as many as three children aged 6 to 14, on one adult card. Classic prices start at 28.50 euros. The airport still needs the ABC version. Use the card when you will also take the listed attraction discounts. Use the 24-hour ticket when you only need the trains.

Validate what you buy. Inspectors will not reconstruct your family tree at the door of a carriage.

Indoor hours that cost nothing

visitBerlin lists state museums as free for anyone under 18. Futurium and the Humboldt Forum appear on the same free list. That is how you fill a wet morning without a ticket-desk argument. Proof of age helps if a child is clearly in the older half of childhood.

Pick one building. The Forum is a courtyard and a few rooms, not a race through every gallery. Futurium is a future-lab that rewards touching exhibits. Neither replaces a playground. Pair either with a snack outside, then stop.

Leave special exhibitions for another visit. The free permanent spaces are why the under-18 rule exists.

Zoo Berlin as the long outdoor loop

Zoo Berlin opens 365 days. From 21 September to 25 October the gates run 09:00 to 18:00, with final admission at 17:00. From 26 October to 31 December they run 09:00 to 16:30, with final admission at 15:30. Time lunch against that clock, not against a second attraction on the far side of the city.

Under-4s enter the zoo and the aquarium at no charge. Child tickets cover ages 4 to 15. Anyone under 12 needs an adult. Online zoo-only tickets were listed from 7.50 euros. Buy before you stand at the kiosk with a hungry four-year-old.

Walk one loop, sit, eat, leave. The aquarium is a separate indoor hour if the weather collapses. It is not a second full outing.

A Tuesday that stays in one borough

Load the 24-hour ticket on the phone before anyone boards. Spend the morning at the zoo, use a playground near the station, eat an early supper. Keep Museum Island for another date. Crossing town to add Naturkunde after the animals is how you lose the afternoon to an S-Bahn standoff.

Naturkunde when Monday is not the plan

Museum für Naturkunde is closed on Monday. Under-6s enter free. From age 6 the ticket is 5.00 euros. Adults pay 11.00 euros. A family ticket is 18.00 euros for two adults and as many as three children under 14. Do that sum before you tap four singles.

The dinosaur hall is the obvious room and the crowded one. Arrive when the doors open, look at one skeleton properly, then treat the rest as optional. If someone is finished after 40 minutes, you are finished.

Closed Monday means your wet-Monday fallback is Futurium, the Humboldt Forum, or a state museum that is actually open. Check the venue calendar, not a recycled list.

How the cards stack

Two adults travelling with two children aged 8 and 11 can ride all day on two adult 24-hour AB tickets, because each adult ticket already covers as many as three children aged 6 to 14. You do not need four 24-hour tickets. Under-6s remain free either way.

If those same people also want the attraction discounts listed on the Welcome Card, compare 28.50 euros and up against the 24-hour fare plus free state-museum entry. Under-18s already enter those state museums at no charge, so the card has to earn its keep on transport plus the remaining listed houses.

Airport arrivals should treat zone C as a real extra. The 24-hour ABC adult fare is 12.90 euros (reduced 8.00). The Welcome Card airport version is the ABC product.

Berlin is large. The family that picks one outdoor site and one free indoor site, and buys the ticket that matches the zones, has a workable city. The family that tries the zoo, Naturkunde and a third hall in a single loop has a transit day.

Questions

Do under-6s need a BVG ticket in Berlin?

No. BVG says children under 6 travel free. Ages 6 to 14 pay the reduced fare, 2.50 euros for a single AB or 7.40 euros on a 24-hour AB ticket.

Does one 24-hour ticket cover the whole family?

One adult 24-hour ticket covers that adult plus up to three children aged 6 to 14. A second adult needs a second ticket. Under-6s ride free and do not use a child place on the ticket.

Is Museum für Naturkunde open on Monday?

No. The museum is closed on Monday. Under-6s are free on open days, and the family ticket is 18.00 euros for two adults plus up to three children under 14.

Which BVG zone is the airport?

Berlin Brandenburg Airport is in zone C. An AB 24-hour ticket is not enough for that journey. Use ABC (12.90 euros adult, 8.00 euros reduced) or an ABC Welcome Card.
