Barcelona with kids: things to do
Visitor fares from TMB, Park Güell, the zoo and the Natural Sciences museum, checked 13 October 2026.
| Ticket | Price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| T-familiar, 1 zone | 11.50 euros | 8 journeys in 30 days, from 15 January 2026. Not valid at L9 Sud airport stations. |
| TMB single / T-dia / airport metro | 2.90 / 12.00 / 5.90 euros | T-casual is 13.00 euros. Under 4 need no ticket. T-16 is for residents aged 4 to 16 only. |
| Park Güell, ages 7 to 12 | 13.50 euros | General 18 euros. Ages 0 to 6 free but still need a ticket. Time slot plus 30 minutes. No re-entry. |
| Barcelona Zoo, ages 3 to 12 | 13.90 euros | Adult 23 euros. Ages 0 to 2 free. No re-entry. Picnic allowed. Closed Christmas afternoon. |
| Natural Sciences, under 16 | Free | Adult 6 euros, family reduced 2.70. Free first Sunday all day and every Sunday from 15:00. |
Do not buy a T-16 for a visiting child. TMB issues that card for residents aged 4 to 16, and a tourist holding one is holding the wrong product. Under-4s need no TMB ticket at all. Everyone else in a visiting family uses a single, T-familiar, T-casual, T-dia, or the airport metro ticket.
Once the fare is the visitor fare, Barcelona with children is a Park Güell slot, a zoo picnic, and a Sunday afternoon at the Natural Sciences museum when the building is free. TMB, Park Güell, the zoo, Museu de Ciències Naturals and Barcelona Turisme pages were opened on 13 October 2026.
Tickets visitors can actually buy
TMB terms state that children under 4 travel without a ticket. The T-16 page is the resident product. Leave it alone.
Current fares list a single at 2.90 euros, T-casual at 13.00 euros, T-dia at 12.00 euros, and airport metro at 5.90 euros. T-familiar is 8 journeys in 30 days at 11.50 euros for 1 zone from 15 January 2026. T-familiar is not valid at the L9 Sud airport stations, so it will not get you off the plane. Use the 5.90-euro airport metro ticket for that hop, then switch.
T-dia at 12.00 euros is the "we will ride all afternoon" product. T-familiar is the "eight hops across a month" product, which helps a longer stay more than a weekend. Count the actual rides before you copy a blog that says every family needs a day pass.
Night buses are a separate question when you look at the Barcelona Card later. They are not on that card.
Park Güell: a ticket even when the child is free
Park Güell charges 18 euros general admission and 13.50 euros for ages 7 to 12. Ages 0 to 6 enter at no charge and still need a ticket. Book the name. Turn up in the slot. You get that slot plus 30 minutes, and you cannot come back in after you leave.
Morning 07:00 to 09:30 and evening 20:00 to 22:00 are reserved for residents. A visiting family cannot use those windows as a free workaround. Buy a paid slot in the public day.
Thirty minutes past the slot is not a picnic afternoon. See the mosaic benches, take the photo the children actually want, walk out. If someone needs a long outdoor day, that is the zoo, not a second circuit of the same hill.
Zoo picnic rules
Barcelona Zoo lists 23 euros for an adult, 13.90 euros for ages 3 to 12, and free entry for ages 0 to 2. It opens every day and closes on Christmas afternoon. There is no re-entry. You may bring a picnic.
No re-entry is the rule that shapes the day. Eat inside. Leave when you are done. Do not plan a "quick exit for a restaurant and back". The ticket you hold will not let you back through.
Ages 0 to 2 cost nothing here and cost nothing at Park Güell, but Park Güell still wants the free ticket printed. The zoo does not ask you to pre-book a named infant in the same way on the page we used. Follow the zoo's own checkout.
Sundays at the Natural Sciences museum
The Natural Sciences museum is free for anyone under 16. Adults pay 6 euros, or 2.70 euros on the family reduced rate. The whole building is free on the first Sunday of the month, all day, and every Sunday from 15:00. From October to February it runs Tuesday to Friday 10:00 to 17:00, Saturday 10:00 to 19:00 and Sunday 10:00 to 20:00. Monday it is shut.
A Sunday from 15:00 is the cheap indoor hour after a zoo morning. Under-16s were already free, so the Sunday rule is the adult saving. Arrive near 15:00, stay for one floor, leave before anyone asks for a second museum.
Whether the Barcelona Card is worth the arithmetic
The Barcelona Card runs 2 to 5 calendar days. Ages 4 to 12 pay a discounted card rate. Under-3s are free on the card. CosmoCaixa and the Natural Sciences museum are included. The zoo is 20 percent off, not included. Night buses are not included.
Do the sum with your real ages. Under-16s already enter the Natural Sciences museum at no charge, so that inclusion is an adult perk. The zoo discount helps if you were paying 23 and 13.90 euros anyway. Transport on the card has to beat T-dia at 12.00 euros or a handful of 2.90-euro singles. If the group walks the old town and takes two metro rides, the card is surplus.
A two-stop Saturday
Morning: the Park Güell slot you booked, then out when the extra 30 minutes ends. Midday: metro on a T-dia or on T-familiar hops that are not the airport line. Afternoon: the zoo with a picnic, no re-entry, done by the time small legs fade. Keep the Natural Sciences museum for a Sunday from 15:00, when the adults stop paying.
Barcelona with children is a named ticket, a hill with a clock, and an enclosure that lets you eat what you brought. Adding a second Gaudí interior and a late beach stacks two cities onto one Saturday. Stopping after the zoo still counts as the city.
Questions
Can visiting children use a T-16?
No. TMB issues the T-16 for residents aged 4 to 16. Visitors should use a single (2.90 euros), T-familiar, T-casual, T-dia, or the airport metro ticket (5.90 euros). Under-4s need no ticket.
Do free children still need a Park Güell ticket?
Yes. Ages 0 to 6 enter free and still need a booked ticket. You get a time slot plus 30 minutes and there is no re-entry. Morning 07:00 to 09:30 and evening 20:00 to 22:00 are for residents only.
When is the Natural Sciences museum free?
Under-16s are always free. Everyone is free on the first Sunday of the month all day, and every Sunday from 15:00. Adults otherwise pay 6 euros, or 2.70 euros on the family reduced rate.
Does the Barcelona Card cover the zoo?
It includes CosmoCaixa and the Natural Sciences museum. The zoo is 20 percent off, not free. Ages 4 to 12 pay a discounted card rate; under-3s are free on the card. Night buses are not included.
