Copenhagen with kids: things to do
Age fit from DOT, VisitCopenhagen, Copenhagen Zoo, Experimentarium and the National Museum, checked 13 October 2026.
| Place | Ages | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| DOT, two children with one paying adult | under 12 free | Ages 12 to 15 about half fare. From 16, adult fare. A child in a stroller is free when there is space. |
| Experimentarium Miniverse | 1 to 5 | No prams inside. Valley next door is for ages 3 to 6. Ages 0 to 1 enter the building free. |
| Copenhagen Zoo, child ticket | 3 to 14 | Under 3s free. Adult DKK 260, child DKK 160, tower plus DKK 25. |
| Copenhagen Card Discover, KIDS | 3 to 11 | At most two KIDS cards per adult card, same order. Ages 0 to 2 need no card. Ages 12 to 15 are JUNIOR. |
| National Museum of Denmark | under 18 free | Ny Vestergade 10. No visitor prams in the exhibitions; borrow a museum stroller. |
Count the children before you tap in. Din Offentlige Transport lets two children under 12 ride free with one paying adult, a child in a stroller rides free when there is space, and ages 12 to 15 pay about half fare. From 16 the adult fare applies. That rule is the cheapest decision you make on arrival.
The figures below were copied from official sites dated 13 October 2026. Experimentarium day prices change, so they are omitted. A conflicting or missing fare is left out.
Two under-12s on one adult ticket
DOT's children page is the page to read at the airport, not a blog table. Two under-12s travel free with the adult who pays. A third under-12 needs a ticket. A 12-year-old is already on the half-fare side. A baby in a stroller is free only when there is space for the stroller.
That is enough for a harbour hop, a zoo ride and a trip north to Hellerup without buying a child card. It is not a tourist pass. If you will enter several paid halls in one stretch, run the Discover numbers instead of stacking singles.
Pushchairs on buses are normal and not always comfortable. Fold when the driver asks. The stroller-free rule is about space, not about age.
Discover, KIDS and a DKK 589 floor
Copenhagen Card Discover covers 80 or more attractions and public transport in zones 1 to 99, including the airport. You can buy 24, 48, 72, 96 or 120 hours. The 24-hour adult card started at DKK 589.
Ages 0 to 2 do not need a card. Ages 3 to 11 use a KIDS card, and you may put at most two KIDS cards on one adult card in the same order. Ages 12 to 15 use a JUNIOR card. VisitCopenhagen's family page repeats those bands.
Add it up before you buy. Two adults, two children aged 3 to 11, the zoo and Experimentarium in 48 hours can beat singles. A family that walks the centre, uses the two-under-12 DOT rule and visits only the free National Museum does not need Discover.
City Pass is a different product on that comparison page. If you only want transport, read both and pick the cheaper one for your days. Do not assume Discover is automatic.
Roskildevej animals or Hellerup floors
Copenhagen Zoo is at Roskildevej 32. An adult was DKK 260, a child aged 3 to 14 was DKK 160, under 3s were free, and the tower was an extra DKK 25. More than 4000 animals are listed. The zoo is open year-round; hours vary. On 13 October 2026 the listed hours were 09:00 to 17:00. Check the day's line before you leave the hotel.
The zoo is the long outdoor day. The tower is optional. A preschooler does not need it.
Experimentarium sits in Hellerup, not next to the zoo. It has three floors and a rooftop that opens in spring through autumn. Miniverse is for ages 1 to 5. Valley is for ages 3 to 6. The site says a visit lasts three to four hours. Ages 0 to 1 enter free. Child tickets cover ages 2 to 11. Adult tickets start at age 12. Online tickets are 10 percent cheaper than the desk. Hours were 09:30 to 17:00, and 09:30 to 14:00 on 24 and 31 December. Prams are not allowed inside Miniverse or Valley.
Do not invent a desk price from an old screenshot. Read the live ticket page the morning you go. Do not stack the zoo and Experimentarium unless you have two grown-ups and a high tolerance for transit. Each one is a half day.
Ny Vestergade when nobody wants to pay
The National Museum of Denmark at Ny Vestergade 10 is free under 18. April to October it opens daily 10:00 to 17:00. November to March it opens Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 17:00 and stays closed on Monday. It is closed on 24, 25 and 31 December.
Visitor prams are not allowed in the exhibitions. You can borrow a museum stroller. That swap is the practical fact, not a footnote. If you arrive with a sleeping toddler in your own pram, you will stop at the door.
Use this as the indoor hour when Discover does not pay for itself, or as the Monday alternative to Experimentarium only in the summer season, when the museum is open that day.
A harbour-side first visit that does not stack
A working stretch: DOT for the two under-12s, National Museum in the morning (or Experimentarium if you have a 1-to-6-year-old and a booked online ticket), an early lunch, then either the zoo or a walk, not both halls. Save Discover for a 48-hour window that already includes the zoo plus Experimentarium plus airport trains in zones 1 to 99.
Copenhagen with children is a fare rule, one paid hall and a free museum. It is not three indoor tickets and a late dinner.
