Singapore with kids: things to do

By Ramya Chinnadurai

Official child prices from LTA, Mandai, Gardens by the Bay and National Gallery, checked 14 October 2026.

National Gallery, child 6 and underFreeStandard general admission 20 dollars for other nationalities. Ages 7 to 12 get 5 dollars off.

Measure the child before you tap. LTA lets children ride basic buses and trains free if they are below 0.9 m and stand with a fare-paying commuter. Taller than that and still under seven, not yet in primary school, they need a Child concession card. The card itself is free. It lasts until 30 April of the year they turn seven. Express, Premium and City Direct buses are not covered. Those take an adult cash fare.

Singapore with children is then a zoo day, a conservatory evening, and a Gallery morning that costs nothing for ages 6 and under. Mandai, Gardens by the Bay, the Gallery, Science Centre, LTA and MSS pages were opened on 14 October 2026.

Mandai as the long outdoor loop

Singapore Zoo is the full-day outdoor plan. Non-resident tickets: adult S$49, child S$34 for ages 3 to 12. Under 3s enter free with an adult over 21 who already holds a ticket to the same attraction. Prices include 9 percent GST. Hours are 8:30 to 18:00 daily, last entry 17:00. The park states it holds more than 4,200 animals.

Arrive near opening. Walk one loop. Eat. Leave before the last-entry rush. Night Safari and River Wonders are separate Mandai tickets and a separate day. Do not stack them.

The MRT does not stop at the gate. Budget the bus or shuttle after the last paid station. That is still cheaper than a second attraction.

Gardens: conservatories, then the children's garden

Gardens by the Bay sells Flower Dome and Cloud Forest together on the current ticket (the Cloud Forest is running Jurassic World: The Experience). Non-resident adult 46 dollars. Child aged 3 to 12 32 dollars. Opening hours: both conservatories 9:00 to 21:00, Flower Dome last admission 20:30, Cloud Forest last admission 20:00. Outdoor gardens are 5:00 to 02:00.

Far East Organization Children's Garden is the water-play half: Thursday to Sunday and public holidays 9:00 to 19:00, last admission 18:00, waterplay until 18:30. In school holidays it also opens Tuesday. OCBC Skyway was closed for maintenance on 14 October 2026. Do not plan that walkway unless the hours page says it is open.

One conservatory pair is enough. The outdoor gardens are the free decompression.

A Civic District morning that does not charge under-7s

National Gallery Singapore is daily 10:00 to 19:00, last admission 18:30. Children aged 6 and under enter free. Other nationalities pay 20 dollars general admission, with 5 dollars off for ages 7 to 12. Children stay with an adult. Strollers are allowed. Keppel Centre for Art Education is a non-ticketed free area, which is the room that actually holds a six-year-old.

Science Centre Singapore is the other indoor hall: closed Monday except public holidays and gazetted school holidays, otherwise 10:00 to 17:00, last admission 16:15. Child tickets are ages 3 to 12. Cash is not accepted. Dollar tables on the ticket page mixed combo and single prices in the fetch, so a figure is not printed here. Book on the site.

MSS normals at Changi put every month between 26.8°C and 28.6°C. December is the wet end, 331.9 mm. That is why the Gallery and Science Centre exist as rain days, not because the air cools.

A first Singapore stay that holds: Zoo on day one, Gardens on a late afternoon, Gallery if someone is 6 or under and you need a free indoor hour. Tap the right card on the MRT. If you want a height-rule city that is hotter and looser, Bangkok with kids is the comparison. Singapore is the one that publishes the 0.9 m line in English.

Rain, humidity, and what not to book twice

MSS normals at Changi put relative humidity around 82 percent and rain on about 171 days a year. The northeast monsoon from December to early March is the wetter window (December 331.9 mm, November 252.3 mm, February a drier 105.1 mm). Conservatories and the Gallery are the rain plan. They are not a reason to skip the Zoo on a dry morning.

Do not buy Night Safari and the Zoo for the same calendar day if the children are under 8. Last Zoo entry is 17:00. Night Safari is a second Mandai ticket and a late bedtime. Pick one.

Gardens Skyway closures happen. On 14 October 2026 the official hours page had OCBC Skyway shut for maintenance. The Supertree Observatory is a different paid lookout (non-resident child 10 dollars on the FAQ). Neither is required. The Children's Garden waterplay is the free-feeling half after you have already paid for a conservatory, and it is closed Monday to Wednesday except school holidays.

A Child concession card is worth applying for if you have a child over 0.9 m and under 7 who will ride every day. It is not worth a morning at a ticket office for a 48-hour transit. Under 0.9 m, just walk through with the paying adult.

Questions

Do children ride the MRT free in Singapore?

If they are under 0.9 m and with a fare-paying commuter, yes, on basic buses and trains. Taller children under 7 who are not in primary school can apply for a free Child concession card, valid until 30 April of the year they turn seven. Express, Premium and City Direct services are not free.

Is the Singapore Zoo a full day?

Treat it as the outdoor day. Last entry is 17:00, gates close 18:00. Under 3s enter free with an adult over 21 who holds a ticket. Non-resident child tickets for ages 3 to 12 were S$34.

What is free indoors when it rains?

National Gallery entry is free for children aged 6 and under. Keppel Centre for Art Education is a non-ticketed free area. Science Centre is the other indoor hall, closed Monday except public and school holidays.
