Hours from Schönbrunn, Wien.info and MuseumsQuartier, checked 13 October 2026.

PlaceHoursNotes
Children's Museum, SchönbrunnDaily 10:00 to 17:00Timed visit. 12 euros adult and 12 euros child aged 3 to 18.
Schönbrunn Park gates, October06:30 to 19:00The park itself is free. Maze 1 September to 25 October: 09:30 to 17:30.
Schönbrunn Zoo, April to September09:00 to 18:30Opened 1752. About 600 species on 17 hectares. October hours were not on the page we used.
ZOOM KindermuseumTue to Fri 08:30 to 16:00Sat, Sun and holidays 09:45 to 17:15. Monday closed. Book from 10 days ahead.

Treat Schönbrunn as one campus, not three separate outings. The park is free, the Children's Museum sells a timed 12-euro ticket for adults and for children aged 3 to 18, and the maze and zoo sit on the same grounds. A first Vienna day with children either stays on that estate or it goes to ZOOM in the MuseumsQuartier. Mixing both is a long tram ride for a short fuse.

Hours close this city more often than prices do. The notes below come from Schönbrunn, Wien.info, Wiener Linien and MuseumsQuartier pages opened on 13 October 2026. October zoo hours were not on the Wien.info page used here, so they are not guessed.

Schönbrunn as a whole morning

Walk in through the park gates. In October they open at 06:30 and close at 19:00. The lawns and the main avenues cost nothing. That matters if someone needs to run before you commit to a ticketed room.

The Children's Museum inside the palace is daily 10:00 to 17:00. Adult and child (ages 3 to 18) tickets are both 12 euros, and the visit is timed. Book the slot, arrive for that slot, and leave when it ends. It is a hands-on palace, not a state-apartments shuffle with a colouring sheet.

The maze, on the same opening-times page, asks anyone under 15 to come with an adult. From 1 September to 25 October it runs 09:30 to 17:30. Put it after the museum if legs are still good. Put it first if you have a 10:00 museum slot and need a buffer.

Schönbrunn Zoo opened in 1752. Wien.info lists about 600 species on 17 hectares, with April to September hours of 09:00 to 18:30. That is a full outdoor half-day. Do not invent a closing time for October from that summer range.

If you only have Saturday

Arrive at the park soon after breakfast, take the 10:00 Children's Museum slot, eat in the grounds, then either the maze or the zoo, not both plus another district. Under-15s in the maze still need the adult next to them. Ages 3 to 5 only need the museum ticket if you later look at the combined product.

The combined ticket and who it excludes

From 27 March to 2 November 2026, Schönbrunn sells a combined Children's Museum, Maze and Zoo ticket at 39 euros for an adult and 29 euros for a child aged 6 to 18. Ages 3 to 5 are told to buy only the Children's Museum ticket. Read that exclusion before you click the bundle. A five-year-old does not ride the 29-euro child rate.

Add the numbers for your ages before you pay. Two adults and two children aged 8 and 4 is not four combined tickets. The eight-year-old can use the bundle. The four-year-old cannot.

ZOOM when you need a booked indoor slot

ZOOM Kindermuseum in the MuseumsQuartier is the other structured morning. Tuesday to Friday it runs 08:30 to 16:00. Saturday, Sunday and holidays it runs 09:45 to 17:15. Monday it is shut. Book from 10 days ahead. That lead time is the whole planning fact: you cannot decide at breakfast on a Sunday in October.

ZOOM and Schönbrunn are different geographies. Pick one as the booked spine. Use the other on a second day if you have one.

Who rides free, and who pays 1.60

Wiener Linien lets children ride free until the end of the school year in which they turn 6. Under-15s also ride free on Vienna school holidays, on Sundays, on public holidays, and on 2 November and 15 November. If your visit lands on one of those dates, the under-15s in the group cost nothing on the trams.

On ordinary weekdays in term time, Wien.info tickets sell a child single from the 6th birthday to the 15th birthday at 1.60 euros, or 1.80 euros if you buy on the tram. The adult single is 3.20 euros, or 3.40 on the tram. Validity is 80 minutes. There is no child multi-day ticket. Do not stand at a machine looking for one.

The Vienna City Card lets one child ride free per card, up to that child's 15th birthday. A second child from the 6th birthday still needs a child single unless the calendar has already made them free. Two adults with three school-age children is two City Cards plus at least one extra child fare, or a handful of 80-minute singles if you will not ride much.

Pushchairs on trams are normal and not always graceful. Schönbrunn is a U-Bahn plus a walk. ZOOM is a MuseumsQuartier stop. Neither requires a day of transfers.

Book one timed room and let the park fill the remaining hours. Stacking ZOOM, the maze, the zoo and a city-centre museum because the map looked compact is how the day breaks.

Questions

When do children ride free on Wiener Linien?

They ride free until the end of the school year in which they turn 6. Under-15s also ride free on Vienna school holidays, Sundays, public holidays, and on 2 November and 15 November. On other days, ages from the 6th to the 15th birthday pay the child single (1.60 euros, or 1.80 on the tram).

Is there a child version of a Vienna travel pass?

Wien.info says there is no child multi-day ticket. The Vienna City Card lets one child ride free per card, up to the 15th birthday. Extra children from the 6th birthday need child singles.

Can ages 3 to 5 use the Schönbrunn combined ticket?

No. The combined Children's Museum, Maze and Zoo ticket for 27 March to 2 November 2026 is for adults and for children aged 6 to 18. Ages 3 to 5 only need the Children's Museum ticket at 12 euros.

Is ZOOM open on Monday?

No. ZOOM is closed on Monday. Tuesday to Friday it runs 08:30 to 16:00; Saturday, Sunday and holidays 09:45 to 17:15. Book from 10 days ahead.
