One day trips from Bangalore with kids
For a day trip from Bangalore with kids, the closest places are Bannerghatta and Nandi Hills, and the useful facts are the hours, the closing day and the child ticket. This guide gives the distances, hours and fees that Karnataka Tourism and other official pages state for nine places, says which fees we will not state, and explains why the Skandagiri trek is not a family trip.
Sourced 23 October 2026. We read each official page linked below on 23 October 2026. Distances are approximate road distances as the pages give them, and we show a travel time only where a page states one. Hours, fees and rules change, so confirm on the official page before you go.

How to choose a day trip with kids
- Time in the car. Bannerghatta is about 22 km away and Mysuru is about 3 hours each way on the expressway. Match the drive to your youngest child.
- The closing day. Bannerghatta is closed every Tuesday.
- The child ticket. Some pages give a child price, some say a child pays and give no amount, and some give none. The table says which.
- Weekends. The Nandi Hills page says the hill can get crowded at weekends.

Notes on the table
The Bannerghatta page gives no child safari price, so we state none. On the Mysuru Palace page, one section quotes one entry fee and another section quotes a different one, which is why we state none.

Why Skandagiri is not a trip for kids
The Karnataka Eco-Tourism booking page for the Skandagiri trek states Not for children, and its booking form counts participants Above 12 Years. The page gives about 68 km in one paragraph and about 70 km in another, says Kalwara village is 2 hours by road from Bangalore, and lists start slots at 6:00 am and 8:00 am at Rs 250 per person. It says the trek is a day-long hike of moderate to tough difficulty, and the booking box gives a length of 4 km while the text gives a total hiking distance of 8 km.
Bookings are only on karnatakaecotourism.com. The page also carries a notice written under the COVID-19 norms, so confirm the current trek rules before you plan. Our view, not an official statement, is to treat Skandagiri as a trek for older teenagers and adults and to pick one of the places above for younger children (Karnataka Eco-Tourism, Skandagiri, sourced 23 October 2026).
Places we could not confirm
We found no official distance from Bengaluru for Srirangapatna, Ramanagara or Lepakshi, and no Mysuru Palace fee we can state with confidence. We left out the Ramanagara closing time, because the district page did not state it, the Bannerghatta child safari price, and the Mysuru Palace sound and light show timings, which we did not confirm on an official page.
Plan the trip
- Pick by distance and month with the weekend getaway finder.
- Total the costs with the family trip budget calculator.
- Pack with the family packing list generator.
- For a longer trip with a small child, read how to plan a weekend trip with a toddler.
Ula, your AI travel companion, plans and books trips with your OK and remembers how you travel. It is in early access, and you can join the waitlist. The finder, the calculator and the packing list work without it.
What we left out
We left out a ranking of the places, drive times that no official page states, restaurant and parking advice beyond what the pages give, and any child price that an official page does not state.
