The formula and the rounding
- Litres needed = distance / mileage. A round trip doubles the one-way distance first.
- Fuel cost = litres x fuel price per litre.
- Total = fuel cost + tolls. The tolls box is the total for the whole trip, so tolls are added once and never doubled.
- Each share = total / number of people.
Litres show two decimals. The fuel cost, the tolls, the total and each share are whole rupees, rounded one by one, so the shares added together can differ from the total by a few rupees.
About the fuel price
The price box starts with the Delhi petrol price of Rs 102.12 per litre in the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) daily price table for 23 October 2026, the latest table posted when we checked on 25 October 2026. Fuel prices change daily and differ by city and fuel, so type the price where you fill up.
What we left out
We left out toll rates and the FASTag annual pass, because we did not confirm them on an official page, and we state no mileage for any car. Enter the tolls from your own route and the mileage your car gives.
Questions
How do I calculate the fuel cost for a road trip?
Divide the distance by your mileage in km per litre to get the litres. Multiply the litres by the price per litre to get the fuel cost. Add the tolls for the trip to get the total, and divide by the number of people to split it. The calculator does these steps and shows them.
What does the round trip switch do?
It doubles the one-way distance you enter, so the litres and the fuel cost cover the way back as well. It does not change the tolls.
Are the tolls counted once or twice for a round trip?
Once. The tolls box is the total for the whole trip, exactly as you enter it. If you know the one-way toll, enter double that for a round trip.
Where do I find the toll amount for my route?
The calculator does not know toll rates. We did not confirm toll or FASTag figures on an official page, so we show none. Add up the tolls for your own route from the toll receipts, your FASTag statement or the official highway authority tools, and type the total.
Which fuel price should I use?
Type your own local price per litre. The box starts with the Delhi petrol price in the official PPAC daily price table for 23 October 2026, with a link. Fuel prices change daily and differ by city and fuel, so replace it with the price where you fill up.
What mileage should I enter?
Enter the km per litre your own car gives on the kind of road you will drive. We state no mileage for any car, because it depends on the car, the load, the road and how you drive. Fill the tank and check the odometer on your last trip if you are unsure.
How are the numbers rounded?
Litres show two decimals. The fuel cost, the tolls, the total and each share are whole rupees. The shares are rounded one by one, so added together they can differ from the total by a few rupees.
Can Ula plan a road trip for my family?
Ula, your AI travel companion, plans and books trips with your OK and remembers how you travel. It is in early access, and you can join the waitlist. The calculator works without it.
