Coorg trip cost

Coorg trip cost: getting there, Dubare, Nagarhole, treks

Coorg (Kodagu district) has no airport or railway station, and most of its sights publish hours but no official entry fee. What is official: the distances, the seasons, the Jungle Lodges stay at Dubare from Rs 5,416 per person a night, and Karnataka's 2026 trekking rules. Price the rest yourself with the budget sheet below.

Sourced 4 Nov 2026. Distances and climate come from the Kodagu district site (pages last updated in 2018), sights and seasons from Karnataka Tourism (undated), Dubare prices from Jungle Lodges and Resorts (read 4 November 2026), and safari and trekking rule changes from the news reports named next to each line.

Getting to Coorg

Madikeri is the district headquarters and the usual base. The Kodagu district site puts the district "about 257 km away from state capital, Bangalore". That is a figure for the district, not for Madikeri, and we found no official Bengaluru to Madikeri road distance.

  • Air: "There is no airport in Kodagu district", per the district's Talacauvery page (last updated 10 August 2018). From Madikeri it lists Kannur International about 120 km and Mysuru about 121 km away, and it puts Mangaluru International about 137 km from Kodagu. Karnataka Tourism's Talakaveri page gives Mangaluru airport as 135 km and Bengaluru airport as about 300 km.
  • Rail: there is no railway station in Kodagu either. The nearest are Mysuru, Hassan, Mangaluru, Thalassery and Kannur. Karnataka Tourism puts Mysuru Junction 120 km from Raja's Seat.
  • Bus: KSRTC runs buses from Bengaluru to Madikeri; check times and fares on ksrtc.in.
  • Road: for a drive from Bengaluru or Mysuru, the road trip fuel cost calculator works out the fuel once you know your route distance.

Distances from Madikeri

These figures are from the Kodagu district site. Where its pages give two figures, both are shown.

Bar chart of distances from Madikeri on the Kodagu district site: Raja's Seat 1 km, Abbey Falls 9, Harangi 33 or 38, Bhagamandala 39, Talakaveri 46 or 48, Iruppu Falls 75, Barapole rafting 78, airports at Kannur 120 and Mysuru 121 km, and Mangaluru airport 137 km from Kodagu

  • Raja's Seat: about 1 km from the Madikeri bus stand.
  • Abbey Falls: 9 km, per the district's Abbey Falls page.
  • Harangi: 33 or 38 km (the district page gives both).
  • Bhagamandala: 39 km. Talakaveri: 46 or 48 km.
  • Iruppu Falls: 75 km, per the district's Irpu Falls page. Barapole rafting: 78 km from Madikeri and 27 km from Gonikoppal.

When to go

The district site describes three seasons: summer from March to mid-June, averaging 26 C; the monsoon from mid-June to September, with about 310 cm of rain a year; and winter from late November to February, around 15 C and below 0 C in some upper areas. Karnataka Tourism's Kodagu experience page says "October to March offers pleasant weather and clear skies" and "June to September is when Coorg turns lush, green, and fragrant", and its Tala Kaveri page says "Post-monsoon and winters are the best seasons".

Sights: hours, but no official fees

We found no official gate fee for any of these, so we print none. Third-party fee figures we saw could not be checked against an official page.

Dubare Elephant Camp

Dubare's stay is run by Jungle Lodges and Resorts, a Karnataka government company. We read its page on 4 November 2026.

  • Stay: "Price Starts from 5,416" per person per night, twin sharing, for an all-inclusive package with the safari. The Forest View room shows Rs 6,372 beside Rs 5,416 and the River View Rs 6,903 beside Rs 5,868; the page does not label the lower figure. The package includes the stay, meals, a jeep safari, a nature walk, forest entry and 18% GST.
  • Day visit: Rs 2,200 per person, with breakfast, lunch, a nature walk and tea.
  • Elephant activities: listed at Rs 1,400 per person but marked "Temporarily stopped", even though the Day 2 itinerary still mentions them. Treat them as suspended and confirm with Jungle Lodges.
  • Rules: single occupancy costs 30% extra, there is no check-in after 7 PM, and prices are "dynamic, subject to change without prior notice". Mobile phones are not allowed on safaris in any Karnataka tiger reserve.

Nagarhole safari

Nagarahole covers 847.981 sq km across Mysuru and Kodagu, per the district site. Safari fees have changed twice in two years, and we could not open an official tariff:

  • June 2025: as reported by Outlook Traveller on 3 June 2025, the Forest Department set safaris at 6:00 to 9:00 AM and 3:00 to 6:00 PM, with Rs 500 per Indian adult for the jeep, Rs 300 for the bus and Rs 500 for the boat. Those fees have since been revised.
  • 1 September 2026: fees were revised again, as reported in July 2026, but the reports give different figures and we could not read the order. We print no new numbers: check the Karnataka Forest Department portal before you book.

Trekking rules in 2026

Karnataka tightened trekking rules this year. As reported by ETV Bharat on 17 April 2026, the state's trekking SOP requires:

  • Online registration and booking, and a tracking app on every trekker's phone.
  • One nature guide for every 10 trekkers. Solo trekkers must hire a guide.
  • At most 150 people on a route.
  • No sharp metal objects, single-use bags, weapons, noise-making instruments or campfires.

A Forest Department safety framework reported by newkerala.com on 30 August 2026 adds daily entry limits, trained local guides, GPS tracking and a phased reopening of routes, with suspensions when tigers, leopards, elephants or bears are detected and blacklisting for leaving the path. Tadiandamol closed after a solo trekker went missing in April 2026, and we found no report of it reopening. Check with the Kodagu forest division before you book any trek.

Traveling with children or older relatives

  • Jungle Lodges charges children aged 5 to 12 half price at Dubare.
  • On treks, minors need a parental consent letter and elderly trekkers a fitness certificate, under the April 2026 SOP.
  • On KSRTC buses, children up to 6 years travel free without a seat of their own, children above 6 and up to 12 pay the child fare, and those above 12 pay the adult fare, per KSRTC's reservation terms. Height also counts: under 117 cm free, 117 cm to under 140 cm child fare, 140 cm and over adult fare. Advance booking for a single child is not allowed.

  2. Hey Ula: Dubare's day visit is Rs 2,200 each on Jungle Lodges, but its elephant activities are marked temporarily stopped. For treks, Karnataka now needs online registration and a guide for every 10 people, and Tadiandamol has been closed since April.
  3. You: What about a Nagarhole safari?
  4. Hey Ula: Fees were revised from 1 September 2026, so I'll check the Forest Department portal for the current price before we book.

Examples for different travelers

  • Couples: a Jungle Lodges stay at Dubare, which includes meals and a jeep safari, keeps most costs on one bill.
  • Friends: plan treks around the 2026 rules: book online, and count on hiring a guide.
  • Business travelers with a free day: Raja's Seat and Abbey Falls are both close to Madikeri.

What we could not confirm

  • Gate fees at Raja's Seat, Abbey Falls, Talakaveri, Iruppu, Mandalpatti and Harangi, and hours at Abbey Falls.
  • The official Nagarhole tariff from 1 September 2026, and its booking site.
  • Which treks are open now, and any official trek fee.
  • KSRTC fares, a Bengaluru to Madikeri road distance, and homestay rules (the district's homestay page returned an error).
  • Public entry and rafting fees at Dubare outside the Jungle Lodges package.
