The Passport Seva instruction booklet asks for a passport size photograph, 4.5 cm length x 3.5 cm width, in colour, with a plain white background and a frontal view of the full face.
It says a photograph is not required for applications submitted at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra. The printed photo is for other centres.
For minors below 4 years, the Passport Seva guidelines give 45 mm x 35 mm, a white background, and a face that takes up 80 to 85% of the photo.
Neither document states a pixel size or a file size, so the checker gives none.

How the checker works
- Pixels and shape: read from the image file. Shape is width:height in lowest terms, for example 7:9 for 35 x 45 mm.
- Print size: pixels / DPI x 25.4 mm, shown at 300 and 600 DPI. The official pages we read state no DPI, except one Thai embassy page that asks for at least 300 PPI.
- File size: in kilobytes, where 1 KB is 1,000 bytes, which is the stricter reading of a limit such as 240 kB or 6MB.
- Pass means the file meets a stated rule. Check means it may need cropping, resizing or printing at the right size. Fail means it breaks a stated rule, such as a maximum file size.
Your photo stays on your device
Your photo stays on your device. The checker reads it inside your browser and does not upload, store or send it anywhere. The page has no upload form. Your browser decodes the image in memory to read its width and height, and the file size and type come from the file itself. No part of the image goes into analytics or logs.
What we could not confirm
We could not open travel.state.gov, the France-Visas FAQ or the Singapore SAVE visa portal FAQ on 27 October 2026, so the checker states no US maximum pixel size, no French face height and no SAVE file limit. We found no official pixel size for the printed India passport photo, Schengen, UAE or Thailand photos, and no official upload file size for India passport photos taken abroad. The Sri Lanka ETA pages we read mention no photo upload.
Questions
What is the passport photo size in India?
The Passport Seva instruction booklet asks for a photograph of 4.5 cm length x 3.5 cm width, in colour, with a plain white background and a frontal view of the full face. It says no photograph is required at a Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra; the printed photo is for other centres. The booklet states no pixel or file size.
What photo size do Indian embassies abroad ask for?
Notices from the Embassies of India in Doha and Tehran give 630 x 810 pixels, a white background and a face covering 80 to 85% of the photo. They state no file size. Missions can differ, so check your own mission's page before you apply.
What is the US visa photo size?
The State Department photo page gives 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) with a plain white or off-white background. For a digital image it says JPEG, equal to or less than 240 kB, and 600 x 600 pixels. We could not open travel.state.gov itself on 27 October 2026, so the checker marks other square sizes as Check rather than Fail.
What is the UK visa photo size?
GOV.UK says a digital photo must be at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels tall, between 50KB and 6MB, a jpg or jpeg file, with a plain light-coloured background.
What size is a Schengen visa photo?
The German Missions in India ask for 35 x 45 mm, a white background and 70% to 80% face coverage, not older than six months. The Netherlands checklist for India says 3.5 cm by 4.5 cm with a white or light-coloured background, so a white background meets both.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. Your photo stays on your device. The checker reads the file inside your browser to get its pixel size and file size, and it does not upload, store or send the photo. Nothing about the image goes into analytics. Close the tab and it is gone.
Can the checker tell me if my photo will be accepted?
No. It checks the numbers a file can show: pixels, shape, file size and file type. It cannot judge the background colour, face size, lighting, glasses or expression, and consular and passport officers decide whether a photo is accepted. Read the official page linked for your document as well.
Can Ula help plan the trip once the visa is sorted?
Ula, your AI travel companion, plans and books trips with your OK and remembers how you travel. It is in early access, and you can join the waitlist. The checker works without it.
